The City of Sherwood was about to remove Rudy Olsen's ancient gas pump from the public right of way, when an architect named Terry Tollen persuaded the Mayor and Council to dedicate the landmark to the people of Sherwood as a public park. Tollen hoped that the dedication would encourage citizens to realize that their personal journey through life is part of the community's story as well. "A community really is the sum total of its citizens." he explained.
