Sherwood Oregon January 9th, 1899.

This being the Day set by charter for the anual meeting of the Town Council of the town of Sherwood the Council met in Town Hall and was Called to order by President Janeway. Members of the old Administration present wer B.Janeway Prest Councel Gust Hanke and L.S.McConnell members of the Council J.E.Young Recorder, J.C.Smock Treasurer

Upon Examination of the Election Returns of the Election held January 2nd, 1899 the following persons wer declared Elected as officers of the town of Sherwood for the Year 1899.

for.town.Recorder J.E.Young, Town Treasurer J.E.Morback, Town Marshal Henry Munsell.

President Elect J.C.Smock being presnt was Sworn in as president of the Council and Entered Imediatly upon the discharge of the duties of his office.

P.T.Meeks, Mike Reisner and Miles.J.Haynes.being present took the oath of office as Councilmen of the Town of Sherwood and Entered upon the discharge of ther duties.

Bond of J.E.Morback Town Treasurer Elect with Wm.A.Pulley & J.V.Hall as surities wer read before the Council and upon Motion was accepted

Bond of Henry Munsell Town Marshal with J.P.Mohrman and L.A.Meeks as surities was read before the Council and on motion the bond was accepted.

Henry Munsell being present took the oath of office and entered upon the duties of said office of Town Marsal of the town of Sherwood.

Recorder J.E.Young being his own Successor in office his former Bond was Examined and On Motion was Continued in force for the Ensuing year.

Ordinance #35 was taken up and read for the first Reading. This Ordinance is for the purpose of granting a Franchise to the Oregon Telephone & Telegraph Co. to set polles String wires along and across the public streets alleys & Thurfaires of the Town of Sherwood.

After consideration the ordinance was ordered Read for the Second time.

After being amended so as to Binde said Telephone and Telegraph Company to keep a

A public Telephone Within the Corporate Limits of the Town of Sherwood perpetualy or forfeit ther franchise the Said Ordinance #35 was read for the third reading and placed on its final pasage. The vote for Adoption stood as follows. Meeks Yes, Reisner ", Haynes ".

The ordinance was approved by the president and duely signed.

On Motion the Council then Adjourned until Saturday January 14th, 1899 at 7:30 P.M.

Persuant to Adjournment of the Council January 9th, 1899 Common Council met at 7:30 P.M. in town Hall and was called to order by Recorder J.E.Young Prest acting President J.C.Smock being absent.

Roll Call showed members present to be P.T.Meeks, Mike Reisner, and M.J.Haynes members of the Council Recorder J.E.Young and Marshal Henry Munsell.

On Motion the following order of Business for the government of the council for the year 1899 was adopted by unanimous Vote there of.

Under the Head of filling vacancies S.O.Hogan who was Elected At the Annual Election as a Member of the Council haveing failed to qualify and Enter upon the duties of his office as by Charter Required there was declared to be a vacancy in the Council and nominations for Councilman was declared in order.

George Saylor was placed in nomination there being no other person placed in nomination nominations wer closed. A Ballot was then taken for to Elect A Councilman to fill the vacancy Which Resulted in the Election of George Saylor for a Unanimous Vote of All member present and George Saylor was declaired duely Elected a Member of the Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood.

George Saylor being presant took the Requested Oath of Office and Entered in upon the dities of Councilman of the Town of Sherwood Oregon.

Petition of Gardner Bros. for a retail Liquor Licens to sell spirituous Malt and Vinious Liquors in Less quantities than one gallon for a period of (3) three Months Within the Corporate Limits of the Town of Sherwood begining on Janry 21st, 1899 and ending April 21st 1899 was read before the Council Also a Licens Bond such as is Required by the provissions of Ordinance #7 of said town covering the time specified in the petition. Signed by Gardner Bros. as principal John P. Mohrman and W.C.Heater as surities and the Town Treasurers Receipt for $100.00 showing said amount of Money had been paid into the treasury for such Licens was read before the Council.

A Motion was made by P.T.Meeks with a second by G.W.Saylor that the petition of Garner Bros. for a Liquor Licens be granted and that the Bond be Accepted

Provided that the Business Conducted under the Licens shall be carried on in the Building on Lot five (5) in Block One of the Town of Sherwood Oregon Known as the Mohrmann Saloon Building, and that before such Licens is Issued by the Recorder boath partners in the Business Must become residents of the Town of Sherwood Oregon within its corporate Limits and remain residents of said Town of Sherwood during All the time such Licens shall run.

The vote on the above motion stood as follows. P.T.Meeks.Yes, M.Reisner No, M.J.Haynes No, Geo. W. Saylor Yes, President Acting J.E.Young Yes.

There being a tie in the Council vote on the Above Moiton the President acting Voted to Sustain the Motion As Recorded above.

Treasurer Report for the quarter Ending Dec. 31st, 1898 was Read Examined and approved by

the Council.

On Motion the Report of J.E.Young as foreman of the work on watter plant to gether with all Bills was Laid over untill next meeting.

On Motion the Marshal was Instructed to purchase two (2) Ricks of 16 or 18 inch Dry Fir Wood and to have the same placed in the town wood shed as soon as possible and present this Bill for the same.

On Motion it was desided that All the Town Ladders and all other Moveable fire aperatus be placed in charge of the Town Marshal and that they be kept on the Town properly at all times. Provided that the fire Company shall have the right to take out and use said aperatus for practice Drills and in cases of fire returning the same to the Town promptly when through with practice.

Council then adjourned to meet Saturday Eveng Jany. 21st, 1899 at 7P.M.

Persuant to Adjournment of January 14th,1899 Comon Council met in town Hall and was called to order by the president. Roll Call the following members present.

Petition of Gardner Bros for a permit to move the saloon Business from the Building now occupied by them on Lot 5 in Block One Sherwood Oregon to the Building on Lot Six (6) in Block two (2) for the Balance of the unexpired time of the Licens was on Motion granted by a Unanimous Vote of the Council.

Marshal Munsell's Bill amting to two $2.00 for wood ordered by the Council was alowed and ordered paid.

On John Pools Bill of $118.... A Warrant was ordered Drawn for $40.00 as part payment.

On U.S.Nelsen's Bill of $58.44 a Warrant was ordered drawn for $20.00 as part payment.

Ordinance #36 the provissions of which makes it a misdmenor for any person or persons to take and use any of the fire Aperatus belonging to the town of Sherwood for private use was Introduced by Councilman Haynes and was Read for the first Reading and on Motion was Laid ove for second Reading at the next meeting.

Ordinance #37 the provisions of which is to Licens Dances in Halls and all Buildings within the corporate Limits of Sherwood Except private Residences was Introduced and Read for the 1st reading and on motion was Laid over for the Second Reading at the next meeting.

Ordinance No. 34 was Read for third reading and by Request of the president was Laid over without action to

the next meeting he wishing to investigate as to the Consitutionality of some parts ther of.

The affidavits of L.B.Welch and O.E.Shepard In regard to John Woida selling Liquor to Minors was Read before the Council on Motion J.E.Young was appointed.a committe of One to go to Portland or Hillsboro and Investigate the desissions of the Supreme Court in the matter of any person selling Intoxicating Liquors to Minors With power if he deams it necessary to take Legal advice in the matter as to the power of the Corporation of Sherwood in the prosecution of such Cases.

On Motion it was desided to allow the Sherwood fire Company to meet in the Town Building untill further orders the town to furnish Wood and Oil for Heating and Lighting the Room during such meetings.

On Motion the president of the Council was Instructed to appoint a Committe of two to [Expert?] the Books of the officers of the town.

Sherwood Oregon Feby. 3rd, 1899.

Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood Oregon met in regular Monthly session and was Called to order by the president.

Roll Call showed those present J.C.Smock, Prest. P.T.Meeks M.Reisner, M.J.Haynes & G.W.Saylor Members of the Council and J.E.Young Recorder.

Minutes of Last meeting read and approved.

The Marshal Mr. Henry.Munsell haveing moved out of town and haveing Delivered over to the.recorder the property of the town pertaining to such office the office of Town Marshal was declaired vacant and nominations to fill said vacancy was declaired in order. E.G.Hagey was placed in nomination there being no other placed in nomination, nominations wer closed and E.G.Hagey was Elected to the office of Town Marshal by a unanimous vote of the Council.

On Motion the Recorder was Empowered to Accept Mr. Hagey's Bond as Marshal subject to the approval of the Council At its next meeting. and that he enter Imediatly upon the duties of said office.whenever he filed his Bond and took the oath of office.

Receipt from John Poole for the sum of $40.00 which had been placed to the Credit of the town of Sherwood on Account for Watter plant supplies was Examined and

ordered placed on file.

Comitte to Investigate Books of the officers of the town Reported that they had done nothing in the matter and wer granted more time.

On Motion the comitte to Investigate the Law in regard to selling Intoxicatiing Liquor to Minors was discharged from further ["duty" crossed out] consideration of the case.

The Motion was voted on as follows. Reisner, Haynes & Mr. President voteing yes. Meeks & Saylor No.

Bill of August.Holtznagel.for Blacksmithing amt 25c ordered paid.

On Motion A Warrant was ordered drawn in favor of N.S.Nelson for $38.44 Balance due on Lumber Bill.

Ordinance #36 providing.for the punishment of any person or persons using any of the Laders or other fire Aperatus for private use was taken up and read for the second and third reading and was adopted by the following Vote. Yes Meeks, " Reisner, " Haynes, " Saylor.

Ordinance #37 to Licens Dances or Balls and prescribing the Marshal's duty in keping order at all such dances or Balls was read for the Second and third Reading and was adopted by the following vote.

Ordinance #34 Providing for the filling of vacancies in office in the Town of Sherwood was read for the third reading and was discussed at Length and on a Motion to Adopt the Ordinance the Vote stood as follows. Meeks Yes, Haynes Yes, Saylor Yes, Reisner No.

Ordinance #36 and # 37 wer approved by the president and placed on file.

Ordinance #34 was taken in charge by the.President of the Council for consideration before official action was taken on the same by him.

Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood met in regular session met in Town Hall and was called to to [sic.] order by president Smock.

Roll Call showed no quorum presant and the council was adjourned By the president to March 8th at 7:30 P.M., 1899.

Sherwood Oregon.March.8th,1899.

Persuant to adjournment of March 3rd, 1899 Comon Council met in Council Chambers and was called to order by the president. Roll Call showed all members presant.

Minutes of Meetings of last two meetings read and approved.

Communication of president Smock Vetoing Ordinance #34 which was passed by the Council Feby 3rd,1899 was read before the Council and on a Motion to sustain the Vote of the President to Ordinance #34 the vote stood as follows. Thoes voting no wer Mr.Meeks & Saylor. Thoes voting yes Reisner Haynes and Mr. Prest. By the above Vote the Veto of the Prest. was sustained and ordinance #34 failed to become a Law.

Chairman of the Comitte of Investigation stated that they had not finished ther work and the time was Extended to next meeting.

On a Motion to repeal Ordinance #31 the Vote stood as follows. Yes Meeks and Haynes. No Reisner Saylor & Mr.President. Motion was Lost.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to fill the Watter tank for which service he was to Receive $2.00.

There Being no other Business Council Adjourned to the next regular meeting.

Sherwood Oregon April 7th, 1899.

Common Council of the Town of Sherwood met in regular monthly session and was called to order by Prest. Smock. Roll Call showed all members present Except Councilman G.W.Saylor and Marshal Hagey.

Petition of Gardner Bros. for a retail Liquor Licens together with Duplicate Receipt for money Deposited for same and A Bond covering the time for which such license was asked for as by Law required was read before the the Council and.as it was under stood that Council Man Saylor would soon be in his seat the matter was [post?] to be refered Back to A Communication of John Poole asking when he could Expect the Ballance due on Machinery to be paid was read before the Council. No action taken.

Report of Town Treasurer showing Balance of $8.05 on hand was Examined and Approved.

Report of Town Recorder showing Balance due Town from fines amt. $3.75 was Examined and approved.

Bill of J.E.Morback Salary $4.93 ordered paid.

Bill of J.E.Young amt. $5.25 for Salary. Ballance due town as shown by report was deducted and warrant for $1.50 Bal. Due Ordered Drawn.

Council Man Saylor haveing arived the matter of the Petition of Gardner Brothers for Liquor License Begining April 21st and Ending July 21st was taken up and on motion by Meeks to grant the petition second by Saylor the Vote stood as Follows. P.T.Meeks Yes, Saylor Yes, Reisner No, Haynes No.

There being a tye Vote it was desided by Prest. Smock Voting.No and the motion was declaired Lost and the Licens not granted.

On Motion the Council then Adjourned.

Sherwood Oregon May 5th, 1899.

Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood met in regular Session and was called to order by President Smock.

Roll Call showed all members of the Council presant Except Mike Reisner. Minutes of Last meeting read and approved.

1st in order of Business was Reading of Resignation of Mike Reisner as a member of the Council. On motion the Resignation of Mike Reisner was accepted and President Smock Declared nominations of Candidates to fill the Vacancy in office of Councilman [crossed out: "to fill the vacancy"] caused by the Resignation of M. Reisner to be in order.

Mr. Gustave Hankey was placed in nomination and there being no other person in nomination nominations wer closed a Ballot was then taken which Resulted in three (3) votes being cast for Mr. Hanke he haveing Received All Votes cast was duely Declaired Elected to the office of Council man of the Town of Sherwood to fill Vacancy caused by the Resignation of Mike Reisner.

Mr. Hanke being presant took the oath of office and Entered upon the duties of said office.

Petition of Gardner Bros. for a Liquor Licens to Sell Spirituous Malt and Vinious Liquors in Less quantities than one gallon within the corporate Limits of the Town of Sherwood for a period of Six Months begining May 6th and Ending November 6th,1899 was Read before the Council and on motion to Grant the Licens as asked for the vote stood as follows. P.T.Meeks Yes, Hanke ", Saylor ", Haynes No. Motion Carried.

Bond of Gardner Brothers with J.P.Mohrmann and W.C.Heater as surity Covering the time as above Stated was Read before the Council and on Motion the Bond was accepted and the Recorder was Instructed to Issue the Licens in accordance with the Petition.

Petition of Sherwood Hose Co. No. 1 for a fire Bell was Laid over On Motion a Warrant for $84.75 to pay the Balance due John Poole on Machinery and Interest was ordered drawn (warrant drawn to J.C.Smock).

The Recorder was Instructed to write to the Mayor of the City of Portland Inquiring in regard to second hand watter pipe and the prise there of.

On Motion M.J.Haynes was Instructed to have the Marshal notify Mr. Parrott that he must take his horse out of town when serving mairs.

On Motion the Recorder and President of the Council was Instructed to purchase a copy of Each of the Session Laws Executive Session 1898 and Regular session 1899 Legislature of Oregon and to draw a warrant in payment of the Same.

On motion Council adjourned to next regular meeting.

Bill of J.E.Morback for Salary, quarter ending June 30th, 1899 amt $8.67 On Motion ordered paid.

Bill of J.E.Young Salary to June 30, 1899 amount $1.15 Ordered paid.

Bill of J.C.Smock for Mdse. amt. 45c Ordered paid.

In the Matter of the purchase of a fire Bell the petition of the Hose Company was Laid over to next meeting.

In the Matter of Watter works Improvement President Smock was Instructed to assertain the cost of 2 and (3) three inch watter pipe Also the cost pr [..] on Shingles.

Recorder was ordered to furnish an Estimate on amount of Material Required to Inclose Watter Tower.

Ordinance No. 38 was Introduced and read for the first.Reading and on Motion the same was taken up and past to its second Reading and was then Laid over for 3rd Reading and final action to the next meeting.

Comon Council of Sherwood met in Regular Monthly session and was called to order by prest Smock.

Roll Call showed members present to be Prest. J.C.Smock members of Council, P.T.Meeks & Gus Hanke there being no quorum Council Adjourned to Wednesday Evening Aug. 9th, 1899.

Comon Council of the town of Sherwood met persuant to adjournment on August 4th and was called to order by prest. Smock.

Roll call showed members present to be Prest. Smock Councilmen Meeks, Hankey, and Saylor and Recorder J.E.Young. Minutes of Meeting of July 7th Read and Approved. Committee man Smock Reported on the cost of Iron pipe. No action taken.

Communication of J.W.Wheelir offerring to furnish 3 in. wood pipe for 25c pr Linial foot and 2 in. for 15c per foot Read before the Council

J.E.Young Reported that it will cost $100.00 for material to Inclose watter tank and tower. No action taken.

Petition of fire company asking that A Tongue be put in the Hose cart Read before the Council. No action taken.

Ordinance #38 red for the 3rd and Last reading and on motion to adopt the Vote stood as follows. P.T.Meeks Yes, Gust. Hanke ", George Saylor ", M.J.Haynes Abcent. Motion prevailed and ordinance adopted. The same was approved by president Smock and became by its own provissions a Law in full force and Effect Imediatly.

Being no other Business On Motion Council adjourned.

Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood met in Regular Monthly Session and was called to order by president Smock. Roll Call showed members present to be Prest. Smock Councilman P.T.Meeks and Gust. Hanke and Recorder J.E.Young.

Being no quorum Council adjourned to Saturday night Oct.7th,1899.

Sherwood Oregon October 7th, 1899

Persuant to Adjournment of October 6th Council met in Town Hall and was called to order by the president. Roll Call showed all members of Council present.

Petition of Gardner Bros. for a retail Liquor Licens to sell spirituous Malt and vinious Liquors in Less quantities than one gallon for a period of six months begining on the 7th day of November 1899 and Ending on the 7th day of Mar. 1900 together with a bond with J.P.Mohrmann and W.C.Heater as surities covering the time specified in the petition was read before the

Council and on a Motion to grant the Licens and Accept the Bonds when properly stamped was voted on as follows. P.T.Meeks Yes, Gust. Hanke Yes, Geo. Saylor Yes, M.J.Haynes No.

On motion the Recorder was Instructed to Issue the Licens above whenever the Bond was properly stamped with the [ware?] Tax Stamp.

Committee man Smock Reports that He had attended the Willamette Valley Telephone Cos. Annual meeting and that according to the Reports of its officers the Company wer practicaly out of Debt and that if all went well the stocks of said company should soon be paying Divadends to the shair Holders.

Treasurer's Report showing amt paid out on warrants to be $11.77 for the quarter Ending Sept.30th Balance on hand Oct.1st $62.55 was read and accepted.

Recorder's Report showing Bal on hand colected from fines after Marshal's fees and court expenses wer paid to be read and Accepted.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to pay to L.A.Meeks Five Dollars out of the $10.80 money in his hands that amount being Due L.A.Meeks as voluntarily Informant in the case of the State vs. William Wilson under the provisions of Sect. 3 Ordinance #38.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to Write to W.E.Wheeler of the Forest Grove Pump Co. to be here in person or to have a representative here on Saturday Eveing Oct. 14th to give figures on watter pipe and Hydrants.

Persuant to adjournment of Oct.7th Comon Council met in Town Hall and was called to order by the presdient Roll Call showed all members presant.

Recorder Reported that he had notified the Wheeler Pump Co. to have a repersentative at this meeting to give prices on pipe.

Mr.W.E.Wheeler being presant stated that he would furnish at Sherwood 434ft of 3 in. wood pipe and 370 ft. of 2 in. wood pipe laying the same in the ditches (to be dug by the Town) furnishing Six Haydrants to be placed wherever designated by the Council All to be fitted togather in good workemanlike manner Ready to turn the watter into and to guarantee the same to Cost for a period of Ten Years for the sum of One Undred and Ninety ($190.00) Dollars.

On Motion the proposition of Mr. Wheeler was acepted and the president and Recorder was ordered to Enter into a contract with Mr. Wheeler for the same. By the following vote. Meeks Yes, Hankey ", Haynes ", Saylor ".

The Recorder was Instructed to draw Specifications for

Digging and filling after pipe is Laid of 80[..] feet of Ditch two feet deepe and 14 inches wide at the Bottom, giveing the location of the said ditch and to advertise for sealed Bids [...] the Labor of Digging and Filling said Ditch Said Bids to be handed or maild to J.C.Smock All Bids to be in by Six oclock P.M. Oct. 28th,1899 When the Bids are to be opened and contract awarded Council Reserving the Right to Reject any and all Bids.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to Stake out Said Ditch.

Persuant to Adjournment of October 28th Council met in Town Hall and was called to order by the president. Roll Call showed All members presant.

President Smock stated that he had Received two Bids on the digging and filling of the ditch for watter pipe and that under the order of unfinished Business the Bids would be opened and considered.

Bid of A. Zinn and Wm. Pulley for digging and filling Ditch as per specifications was $19.00

Bid of E.G.Hagey was $25.00

On Motion the Bid of A. Zinn and Wm. Pulley was accepted and the contract awarded to them at $19.00.

On a Motion to Borrow the sum of Two Hundred $200.00 Dollars on the Credit of the town of Sherwood to be used for the purpose of Enclosing Watter Tower and other Improvements the Vote stood as follows. Meeks Yes, Hanke Yes, Haynes Yes, Saylor No. Motion carried.

On Motion the Recorder was Appointed a Committe of One to Assertain where the amount of Two hundred dollars ($200.00) could be Borrowed on one years time and the Rate of Interest there on and to Report at the next meeting of the council.

Comon Council of the Town of Sherwood met in Regular monthly session and was called to order by the president. Roll Call showed all members presant at Roll Call. Minutes of Last five(5) Regular and Intervening meetings Red and approved.

Petition of B.Janeway and Ten other citizens of the Town asking the Council to Reconcider the proposition to borrow Two Hundred Dollars to fund Watter Tower was Read before the Council Also a petition signed by L.S.McConnell and Seven other Citizens asking and advising the Council to Borrow the $200.00 and make the contemplated Improvements was also Red before the Council.

On Motion by Haynes to Reconsider the Vote taken at the Last meeting to Borrow Two Hundred Dollars on the Credit of the Town to finish watter Tower the Vote to Reconsider stood as follows. Meeks No, Hankey No, Haynes Yes, Saylor Yes. President Smock voted Yes and Declared the Motion carried.

Under the head of Communications a Letter from Crain and Co. of Portland offering to furnish 100 ft 1 1/2 in. cotton fire Hose and one 1 1/2 X 18 in. Nozzle F.O.B. Cars at Jeffersson Streets for $30.00 was Read before the Council.

Bill of J.E.Young Salary and Labor to date amt. $3.25 was audited and allowed.

Unfinished business.

On a Motion to Borrow Two Hundred Dollars from F.Langer to be used to Complete watter Tower the vote stood as follows. Meeks Yes, Hanke Yes, Haynes No, Saylor No, President Smock No and the Motion was declaired bust.

On Motion the Recorder was ordered to purchase 100 feet cotton fire hose as pr Crain and Company's offer and a Warrant for Thirty One $31.00 Dollars was ordered Drawn to pay for Hose Nozzle Money order and freight on same and to Expend Balance for [Steiups?]. Yes Meeks, " Hankey, " Haynes, " Saylor.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to procure $500 blank Town Warrants.

On Motion the Recorder was Instructed to procure the Necessary Lumber to Make Boxes for the Hydrants and for the [Stand?] pipe from the Bottom of the Tank to the ground make sure and Bring in Bill when completed Also to See to filling watter Tank when pipe is Laid and to place the Engine and boiler in as good Shape as possible with the means at Hand.

Persuant to a call Issued by the President the Comon Council met in Called Session to concider [ation?] of a certain Contract with the R.R.Co. in regard to Crossing Depot grounds and was called to order by the President. Roll Call showed all members presant Except Geo. Syalor.

Moved and Second that the following Change be made in the Laying of the Watter pipe said pipe in street of Running South from the South West corner of Block No (3) thence South Across R.R.Street as fair as the 110 fte of pipe already ordered will carry it. Mr. Smock to purchase and Lay as much more pipe on the west side of the County Road as he sees fit.

Motion Carriade.

A plan as above stated was drawn up to be submitted to the manager of the S.P.R.R. asking a permit to Lay pipe under the track on the West side of the Street and County Road.

Comon Council met in regular monthly session and was called to order by president J.C.Smock. Roll Call showed all members present Except G.W.Saylor and E.G.Hagey. Minuts of Last two meetings red and approved.

A permit from the S.P.R.R.Co to lay watter pipe across the Track on the west side of Main Streets was Red before the Council and on motion the provissions of the same was accepted.

Bill of Hall Brothers for printing 500 Town warrants amt. $1.50 ordered paid.

Bill of J.C.Smock for Mdse. Amount $1.15 ordered paid.

On motion the Recorder was ordered to poste notices for the annual Election of the Town of Sherwood to be Held on Tuesday January 2nd,1900 The first Monday of January the day set by charter to hold such Election being New Years Day and a Legal Holiday the Election to be called for Tuesday the day following as by Statute provided.

On Motion the Recorder was ordered to call a citizens meeting for Saturday Eve. Dec. 16th 1899 to nominate candidates for Town offices.

On Motion Bill of Pully & Zinn was Alowed at $23.00 The Items of Cough syrup and socks Amt 75c being disallowed.

Ordinance No. 39 for the [prebetion?] of Watter pipes Hydrants Hydrant Boxes ordered drawn by the Council at its meeting Dec. 1st was Introduced and Red for the First time. and on motion the same was ordered to be passed to its Second Reading.

Ordinance No. 39 was taken up and Red for the second time and on motion was passed on tto its third and Last Reading.

On Motion ordinance #39 was taken up and Red before the Council for its Third and Last Reading and on a Motion to adopt Ordinance No.39 as Red the vote stood as follows. P.T.Meeks Yes, Gust. Hanke ", M.J.Haynes ", G.W.Saylor ".

Ordinance was approved by President Smock and by its own provissions became a Law Immediatly.

Persuant to call of President Smock the Comon Council met in Town Hall for the purpose of appointing Judges and Clerks of the annual Election to be held January 2nd 1900 and was called to order by Prest. Smock Roll Call showed all members of the Council presant the President stated the object of the meeting and Declared Nominations for Judges and Clerks of the Election in order.

Those placed in nomination wer J.E.Cawman Gust Hanke J.M.Barber & Mike Reisner.

A Ballot was then Taken which resulted in the Appointment of J.E.Cawman, Gust. Hanke and Mike Reisner.

Mr. President then declared Nominations for Clerks of Election in order. J.M.Barber Mick Gardner and J.M.Haynes wer placed in nomination A vote was then taken which Resulted in the appointment of J.M.Barber & J.M.Haynes as Clerks.

On Motion the Recorder was Ordered to Nottify the Judges and Clerks of Election as appointed above of ther appointment.
