30. The Motion Picture House

Between the World Wars, this small but graceful Art Deco building was the most popular vision center in Sherwood. This is where the Douglas Fairbanks version of the Robin Hood legend would have been seen. The piano and rows of theater seats remain just as they were when the last audience left here in the 1920s. A beautiful hardwood floor (transplanted from Star Hall, we suspect) has replaced the inclined floor. The stage has disappeared, but it is not difficult to sense the excitement that filled this hall on Saturday nights. Today, the Saturday attraction is the Doughnut Hour sponsored by the United Methodists between 7:30-11:00 AM. The building is owned and maintained by the Sherwood Rebekah Lodge and Tualatin I.O.O.F. Lodge.
