This site is included on the Old Sherwood Town Heritage Trail as a tribute to America's grocers. During times of economic hardship, before food stamps and energy credits, the grocer's beneficence was often all that prevented real starvation. All too often, as in the case of the Mansfield Store, the operation went bankrupt after too many people failed to pay their tab.
