Frank Lukes finally fills Marshal's office, but not present at this meeting.

"Mr. A. Krause being present representing the German Luthern College Association, made the town a proposition in reference to building a Luthern College in Sherwood, providing the town would appropriate the sum of $1500 as an inducement for the association to come here.

"Upon a lengthy discussion in regard the matter, it was decided to circulate a petition to get the sentiment of the voters of the town, premature to any action taken by the council...."

Marshal's office still vacant. "First in order was reading of bill presented by F.Colfelt as special poliece, for 113 days of services at $1.50 per day, amounting to $169.50.

"As there seemed to be some misunderstanding in reference to the salary Mr. Colfelt was to receive, it was moved to table the bill until next meeting, and Mr. Colfelt be interviewed concerning an adjustment of the matter.

"Mr. Hanke as special comittee appointed at the last meeting to circulate petition in behalf of the Luthern College move, presented a petition bearing the names of 17 legal voters of the town, endorsing the appropriation of $1500. of the town's money for an inducement to the college comittee to select Sherwood as their location for the school.

"The petition not having over one-half of the voters of the town, it was decided best not to take any action on Mr. Krouse proposition until Mr. Hankey could make another canvas of the town securing all the names possible on his petition."

Page 149 Jan. 7, 1907

Colfelt accepts $35.00 in lieu of $169.50. "It was also moved that Mr.F.Colfelt be notified that his services as special poliece is not required any longer.

"Under the head of filling vacancyes, Mr. W. Prather was elected by the council to fill vacany caused by failure of Frank Lukes not qualifying as required by law, as town marshal.

"Councilman Hankey at this time brought forth petition in behalf of an appropriation of $1500.00 as an inducement to securing the German Luthern school for Sherwood, which has been under consideration for the past week, and the said petition now bearing the names of 25 of the legal voters of the town, which being over three fourths of all voters, it was agreed and resolved by motion that the Town of Sherwood pledge itself for the sum of $1500, providing the college would be built in Sherwood."

Page 150 Feb. 1, 1907

"The bond of Treas. McConnel with F.Davis and A.Voss as surities being on file, was taken up and approved by the council and ordered filed.

Under the head of filling vacancyes, the matter of securing a marshal was taken up and resulted in the appointment of H.D.Day as special poliece for the term of 30 days, at a salary of $10.00 per month."

H.D.Day given another 30 days to serve. Colfelt and Weston permits each get unanimous approval.

"Upon some consideration of the council as to the advisability of working road tax within the Corporate limits, it was decided upon motion to allow E.G.Hagey road supervisor, to work the town tax as he seen fit adjacent to the town limits."

Ed. Meeks appointed "to act as special poliece and night watch for a period of 30 days at a salary of $45.00 per month."

Page 153 April 5, 1907

"Owing to the obstructed condition in which Mr.F.Colfelt left the alley back of his property, it was moved that the recorder serve written notice on Mr. Colfelt that he proceed at once to clean up the alley in good condition."

Page 154 May 3, 1907

Bills and accounts, including "...H.D.Day $5 account 12 month services as special Poliece; Ed Meeks, $45.00 account one month as night watch and special poliece...."

Streets needs researched.

Page 155 May 13, 1907

"Mr. Hagey stated the comittee had concluded and demed advisable to grade up and rock the following streets in first class order: Commencing at the bridge on the county road a little South of J.C.Smock's residence and fix a tract about 10 feet wide along the south side of the road until intersect R.R.Street, then commencing at the south end of R.R. Street opposite Smock's warehouse and go to the intersection of Washington St., thence to the intersection of First St., thence along first street to Pine street, thence out to the town limits.

"Upon motion W.J.Edwards was appointed by the council to oversee the grading and rocking of the streets herein mentioned...."

"The meeting was called for the purpose of considering the advisability of looking into the matter of getting County rock-crusher to finish up rocking streets, that order of business was taken up. Upon motion it was ordred that E.G.Hagey take the matter up with the county at once and procure the crusher if possible. In the meantime A.W.Hall was instructed to confer with Frank Vincent in view of getting him to furnish power to run the crusher."

Page 159 August 2, 1907.

"E.G.Hagey as special committee on rock crusher, stated that upon investigation nothing further could be done in the way of securing same until after county court, at which time action would be taken by that body upon the matter.

"The following bills were presented, audited by the council and warrants ordered drawn on the Treas. for the several amounts:

"Will Edwards $283.65, account, payroll for labor performed on street work; M.E.Buck $1.25, account, pick furnished town; J.E.Morback $24.65 account, powder and merchandise furnished."

Marshal's office still vacant.

Colfelt and Weston both receive their permits by unanimous vote. [Note: Weston votes for his own permit.]

People paid: A.Holznagel, Theo. Mohrman, "$19.00 account, labor performed on streets; Carl Mohrman $19.00 account, street work....", W.Edwards, "C.Too. $20.00 account, team work moving rock-crusher...", E.Murdock, M.McMillin also paid to move crusher.

Page 161 Sep. 27, 1907

"The meeting convened for the purpose of appointing a specil poliece for the town, the matter was duly taken up and Mr. E.Fonda was chosen by the council to act as special poliece with salary of $50.00 per month to hold said office at the pleasure of the Common Council."

Page 164 Dec. 3, 1907

"The meeting being called for the purpose of making a change in the special police office, the matter was forthwith taken up and upon motion the Recorder was instructed to notify Mr. Fonday [sic.] that his services were no longer required. It then being in order to appoint a special poliece to fill the vacancy, J.H.Morback was placed in nomination and upon ballot the council unanimously elected."

Page 165 Dec. 7, 1907

Colfelt and Weston permits granted once again, unanimous approval.

People paid: B.Fonda $62.00 for one month and 2 days, F.Larson and R.Gehorick and M.Reinwalt and W.J.Edwards for "labor on streets." Conzelman Bros. for "...crossing lumber furnished town."
